There are certain days in Indian classical dance that carry a significance beyond performance. Guru Purnima is one of them.

This year, I had the privilege of celebrating Guru Purnima at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi, surrounded by dancers, musicians, students and revered gurus. Through music, dance and shared devotion, the morning beautifully reflected the living tradition of Indian Classical Music & Dance.

Being in the presence of Padma Shri Guru Madhavi Mudgal made the occasion especially meaningful. It was a powerful reminder that classical dance is not simply taught, it is inherited through the timeless guru–shishya parampara, where knowledge, discipline and values are passed from one generation to the next.

After the performances, Shri Guru Madhavi's students surprised her with a cake and traditional sweets. Watching her celebrate, surrounded by the love and respect of her students, perfectly captured the spirit of Guru Purnima. We then gathered for photographs before sharing a meal together, bringing a beautiful morning to a close…
